About Moffatt’s

Located in Halswell, southern Christchurch, Moffatt's Flower Company operates over 20,000 square metres of glasshouses with the goal of providing optimal growing conditions 365 days of the year. This has us growing over three million stems annually.

Moffatt's is a family business, established in 1949.

Our flowers are locally grown, and this means fresh. Typically, there are less than 48 hours between a flower being cut from the bush to being in a vase. The rapid and reliable delivery of Moffatt's fresh cut flowers is guaranteed by our close relationship with our national freight providers.

Moffatt's offers quality, affordable flowers. This value-for-money is made possible because of our scale and because we are good at what we do. We are a sophisticated operation that measures our success against the best in the world.

Minimising our impact on the environment is a key part of Moffatt's' operations. We manage the use of chemicals through sound environmental control of our greenhouses. We also look for natural alternatives where ever possible.

Our people are the most important part of our company. It is with their knowledge and expertise that we're able to best serve your needs, whether you're coming into the Moffatt's Christchurch flower shop, picking your wedding flowers, dealing with us as a flower wholesaler, buying flowers online, or having a regular order of flowers arrive at your home or office every week.

Senior management

Steve Moffatt - owner

Steve is the owner and managing director of Moffatt's Flower Company. His father started Moffatt's in 1949 and became the first commercial rose grower in New Zealand. Steve joined the family business after his OE in 1972, and in 1980 bought a 8ha "hunk of land" in Halswell to grow his company on (literally). Today, Steve is still at the helm of Moffatt's and is at Candys Road every day to ensure every flower is grown, presented and sold to the Moffatt's high standard. The company remains "very much a family business" with Steve's wife Barbara and children Emily and Jessica actively involved. Away from the greenhouses, Steve is a keen multisport athlete (he has even won the Coast to Coast Longest Day for his age group) and re-enacted an early mountaineer's adventure on Mt Cook.

Leonard Arkesteyn – production manager

Lenny is responsible for growing our beautiful blooms. Born in Holland to a flower and vegetable grower, Lenny has lived in New Zealand for 14 years and is responsible for Moffatt's 35 rose varieties and orchids. He has an immense amount of knowledge in how to grow quality flowers and is key in producing stunning flowers for our customers.

Gerald Davies – general manager sales and marketing

Gerald is responsible for all areas of the business other than growing flowers. Gerald joined Moffatt's in April 2011 after three and a half years in project management for a Wanaka-based eco-development company. Prior to this he has worked in various sectors.
